Ilhan Omar says she will ‘not be silenced’ following raid on Washington home

.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said she will “not be silenced” following a raid on her home earlier on Monday by federal agents as part of a criminal investigation.

“I’m ok,” Omar wrote in a post on X. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”

The Justice Department confirmed in a statement that Department of Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a “judicially authorized search warrant.”

“This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation,” DOJ stated.

It is unclear what the nature and scope of the investigation are; however, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said last month that there was an “ongoing investigation” into Omar.

House Democratic leadership decried the raid, saying in a joint statement that it was “deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries.”

“The American people deserve transparency, and we will deliver full accountability for the rogue abuse of power from the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA), and Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-CA) wrote.

Omar has been a frequent target of fraud allegations from top Republicans. President Donald Trump said in January that the Justice Department was investigating Omar after an accounting mistake on financial disclosures overstated her husband’s assets. Trump has also accused Omar of being connected to fraud rings in Minnesota that received millions from state-run social service programs.

Vice President JD Vance, meanwhile, said in May that the DOJ was investigating allegations that Omar married her biological brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2009 to help him get approved to reside in the United States.

“We’re going to investigate it. We’re going to take a look at it. If we think that there’s a crime, we’re going to prosecute that crime. And that’s something that the Department of Justice is looking at right now,” Vance said at the time.

Omar has denied any wrongdoing.
