House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said he has not “ruled anything out” on impeaching President Donald Trump or members of his Cabinet if Democrats take the majority in November.
“We haven’t ruled anything out when it comes to all of the tools available to us to hold people accountable, and we haven’t ruled anything in,” Jeffries told reporters on Thursday. “That’s been our position. That will remain our position.”
Jeffries’s comment comes after two impeachment efforts came forward this week in the House. The first was a push by Rep. Al Green (D-TX) to impeach Trump for allegedly abusing his authority in the handling of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection.
Green’s impeachment effort was killed on Tuesday after 18 House Democrats voted with nearly every Republican to block it from coming to the floor. Jeffries and the rest of the Democratic leadership voted “present.”

“Impeachment is a sacred constitutional vehicle designed to hold a corrupt executive accountable for abuse of power, breaking the law and violating the public trust,” the Democratic leadership wrote in a statement before the vote to table the motion. “The effort traditionally requires a comprehensive investigative process, the collection and review of thousands of documents, an exacting scrutiny of the facts, the examination of dozens of key witnesses, Congressional hearings, sustained public organizing and the marshaling of the forces of democracy to build a broad national consensus.”
A second impeachment push came from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) on Tuesday against War Secretary Pete Hegseth. Massie’s impeachment effort will not be voted on until after the midterm elections.
