Democrat Amy Acton is leading Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in the latest poll for the Ohio gubernatorial general election.
Acton is ahead of Ramaswamy by 3 percentage points, according to a Bowling Green State University/YouGov poll released Wednesday. Acton sits at 48% support, while Ramaswamy is at 45%. The remaining 7% of voters who participated in the survey said they would vote for someone else.
More respondents view Acton more favorably at 41%, giving her an edge over Ramaswamy’s 36%. Fewer people also view Acton less unfavorably compared with Ramaswamy, with a 47-42% margin in favor of the former.
“This poll showcases what we see every single day across Ohio; Ohioans are ready for change,” Acton campaign manager Philip Stein said in a statement. “Dr. Acton is the only candidate in this race who will lower costs, tackle the cost of corruption, and build a state where all of us can get ahead. Vivek Ramaswamy just doesn’t get our state; Ohioans are seeing right through his policy scams and false promises.”
While the Democratic nominee is outperforming her Republican opponent, it’s not by much. Acton’s lead falls within the nearly 4-point margin of error and sits just below the 50% mark.
Moreover, Ramaswamy performed substantially better on the poll’s question about whom voters think will win the general election. He polled at 62%, nearly double Acton’s 36%.
In a statement provided to the Washington Examiner, Ramaswamy’s campaign dismissed Acton’s favorable polling figures.
“Ohio Democrats have looked safe in plenty of polls before. Today, Sherrod Brown is trying to get his old job back, Tim Ryan is fighting for data center expansion, and Richard Cordray has disappeared from the political map,” Ramaswamy campaign spokesman Evan Machan said. “The media can obsess over every bad poll they find, but they still won’t ask Amy Acton whether she agrees with her running mate on debates, voter ID, or any of the other issues Ohioans actually deserve answers on.”

Previous recent polls largely show Acton with a similarly slight lead, with the exception of an August poll that saw Ramaswamy with a 2-point edge. In a June poll following Ohio’s May 5 primary elections, the two gubernatorial candidates were tied.
YouGov surveyed 1,000 likely Ohio voters for the November election between Sept. 1 and Sept. 10. The poll, sponsored by Bowling Green State University, had a 3.96% margin of error.
