Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha blasted the Democratic Socialists of America platform after their latest proposals to throw out misdemeanors.
“It’s delusional, and it’s dense,” Concha said on Fox News’s Saturday in America with Kayleigh McEnany. “I mean, if you abolish misdemeanor offenses, it’s a gateway to anarchy. Just look at San Francisco and what it’s done to itself by embracing this sort of insane proposal.”
In New York City, where DSA member and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani governs, crimes like sexual misconduct, forcible touching, and second-degree sexual assault all fall under misdemeanors. Concha pointed out the irony of the DSA being the “party of women” given that they were often the victims of these sexual crimes.
Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), both prominent DSA members, have faced recent public outrage after being spotted at a 9/11 ceremony in New York. As the names of victims were being read aloud, the two were seen conversing with each other, smiling and laughing during the somber moment.
“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is maybe the leading poll person right now in terms of the betting markets to lead the Democratic nomination,” Concha said. “She looked like she was on a Tinder date with Zohran Mamdani during that 9/11 ceremony yesterday. She’s a member of the DSA. Elect her president, we may as well call ourselves North Cuba at this point.”
The moment was seen as a slight against the victims, especially after Mamdani attended the event despite a petition with more than 100,000 signatures, including from some of the victims’ families, asking him not to attend the ceremony at all.
“We will never forget the solemn day felt by all of us who call this city home, and frankly by all of us who call this country home,” Mamdani said at the time, after committing himself to attend despite the petition.
The DSA has also faced pushback on its stance of wanting to abolish the presidency, Congress, and eliminate prisons.

“This is the DSA,” Concha said. “I mean, I don’t know how anybody on the planet believes that the country will be safer if we abolish prisons. You wonder why crime is at its lowest point in more than a century in this country? A big reason is ICE.”
Concha said nearly a million people were deported during President Donald Trump’s second term, some with violent criminal records.
