Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha praised Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s speech at the Republican National Committee midterm convention.
“JD Vance, RFK Jr., Democrats don’t have these kinds of diverse voices out there, this kind of star power and that kind of name recognition, for that matter,” Concha said Thursday on Fox News’s Jesse Watters’s Primetime.
Kennedy received numerous rounds of applause during his speech as he told the audience about his experience with President Donald Trump, saying how the president kept every promise he made to him “without fail,” Concha said.
“The biggest applause line from RFK Jr. was when he shared the call he got late on July 13, 2024,” Concha said.
That day, Trump was the target of an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. Kennedy recalled receiving a call from Trump, where he realized everything the “mainstream media” said about Trump “was a lie,” Concha said.
The HHS secretary’s speech comes as the GOP hopes to hold on to its majority in Congress after the midterm elections. Looking even further into political futures, Concha said Democrats are struggling to find a 2028 presidential candidate who could gain as much momentum as Trump and other frontrunners in the GOP.
“Democrats don’t have a true star right now,” Concha said. “If you want to make the argument that Barack Obama is that star, well, you know, the 2010s called and they said, ‘You know, you can keep him at this point.’”

Concha said Obama doesn’t hold the same weight as he once did, citing his endorsements of former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016, both of whom lost their presidential campaigns against Trump.
“You can’t just be anti-Trump, you have to talk about what you are going to do better for the American people,” Concha said. “And raising taxes or embracing the DSA platform … that’s not a message that has won in the past, it’s not going to win here.”
