DALLAS — Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said on Wednesday that first-term Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) could be a “good person” to run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2028.
Jordan made the comments during an interview with the Washington Examiner at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Texas. Specifically, Jordan was asked for his views on a potential White House run by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who has said he plans to be involved in any discussion about who succeeds President Donald Trump.
“I think he’s definitely going to run,” Jordan said of Cruz, before highlighting other candidates he could see entering the race. “I think, you know, there’s been all kinds of talk about Secretary Rubio, who’s done a tremendous job. The vice president, I think, is going to run.”
“I think Gov. Youngkin’s probably looking at it.” Jordan added. “I actually, I think Sen. McCormick could be a good person as well. I mean we got all kinds of good folks. Any of those individuals would be, I think, tremendous.”
Jordan said the GOP had numerous candidates who would be “a zillion times better than” who Democrats could nominate in 2028.
McCormick’s team did not respond to a request for comment by the Washington Examiner before press time. The Pennsylvania Republican was first elected to the Senate in 2024, ousting long-time Democratic Sen. Bob Casey. A former private equity executive, the senator is married to Meta President Dina Powell McCormick.

Pennsylvania is seen as a must-win state for Republicans in 2028. The commonwealth was pivotal to Trump’s Electoral College victories in 2016 and 2024.
Jordan’s fellow Buckeye State resident, Vice President JD Vance, is seen as the front-runner for the GOP nomination in 2028.
