President Donald Trump entered the 2026 midterm primaries with endorsements across the country, backing candidates for the Senate, House, governors’ mansions, and state offices.
Most of Trump’s endorsed candidates advanced through their Republican primaries, particularly in congressional races. But several high-profile endorsements fell short, including gubernatorial candidates in Georgia, Iowa, Minnesota, South Carolina, and Wyoming, as well as House candidates in Michigan and Tennessee, among others.
Here is a state-by-state breakdown of the candidates Trump endorsed and how they fared in the primaries.
Alabama
Senate
Trump endorsed Rep. Barry Moore for Alabama’s open Senate seat following Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s decision to run for governor in Alabama.
House
For Alabama’s congressional seats, Trump endorsed Reps. Mike Rogers, Robert Aderholt, and Dale Strong.
The president also endorsed State Rep. Rhett Marques, former Rep. Jerry Carl, and Gary Palmer, who won in August special congressional primaries after the state’s congressional map was redrawn.
State
Trump endorsed outgoing Sen. Tommy Tuberville for Alabama’s governor race, and vice chairman of the Republican National Committee John Wahl has secured Trump’s endorsement for lieutenant governor and won a runoff election. Tuberville and Wahl will face the Democratic nominee Doug Jones in November.
Alaska
Senate
For the Senate, Trump endorsed incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan for reelection, who advanced through Alaska’s ranked choice primary to the top four general election.
House
Trump endorsed Rep. Nick Begich, who won in the primary election for the Last Frontier’s at-large Senate seat.
Arkansas
Senate
Trump-backed incumbent Sen. Tom Cotton won his Republican primary in March, sending him to the general in November.
House
A slew of Trump-endorsed candidates are advancing to the general in November in the Natural State. Rick Crawford, French Hill, Steve Womack, and Bruce Westerman won their primaries on March 3 with Trump’s support.
State
Arkansas is holding a governor’s election this year, with Trump throwing his weight behind incumbent Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who will take on two democrat challengers in November.
California
California’s Senate seats are not up for bid this election cycle.
House
Trump has endorsed challenger Kevin Lincoln II and California GOP assemblyman James Gallagher, as well as incumbent Reps. Vince Fong, Jay Obernolte, Tom McClintock, Jim Desmond.
State
Trump has played his hand more heavily in California’s statewide election, backing Spencer Pratt for mayor of Los Angeles, who lost to incumbent Karen Bass in a highly contentious primary.
The president also endorsed Steve Hilton for governor, who will face the Democratic nominee and former Biden administration official Xavier Becerra.
Colorado
Senate
Trump has not endorsed Republican Mark Baisly, who secured the nomination in June. He will face Democrat John Hickenlooper in November.
House
Trump endorsed Reps. Jeff Crank, Jeff Hurd, and Gabe Evans, who all won their June primaries.
Trump has also flip-flopped on Hurd’s endorsement, rescinding it shortly before the election, citing Hurd’s failure to support foreign tariffs. The president reinstated the endorsement just before the primary.
Connecticut
Trump has not endorsed any candidate for the Constitution State’s election. The deep-blue state will hold elections for its House seats, governor, state House and Senate, and several other state legislative executives.
Delaware
The president has also not endorsed a candidate in Delaware, but the state will hold elections for a Senate seat, its at-large House seat, state House and Senate, and several other legislative executives.
Florida
Senate
Incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody has the support of Trump in her reelection bid as she heads into the general election. She filled the seat after Secretary of State Marco Rubio was tapped for his position in the Trump administration.
House
Trump endorsed a slew of candidates for Congress in the Florida primary: Reps. Guss Bilirakis, Anna Paulina Luna, Laurel Lee, John Rutherford, Aaron Bean, Greg Steube, Sydney Gruters, Scott Franklin, Carlos Gimenez, Mario Diaz-Malart, Kat Cammack, Randy Fine, Mike Haridopolos, Maria Elvira Salazrt, Brian Mast, and Jim Patronis.
State
Florida attorney general candidate James Uthmeier won his primary and received a Trump endorsement. The president also backed Wilton Simpson for Florida agriculture commissioner, who likewise won his race.
The governor’s mansion is up for grabs because Gov. Ron DeSantis is not seeking reelection due to term limits. Trump has endorsed Republican candidate Byron Donalds.
Trump, however, didn’t win all of his selected seats in the Sunshine State.
Jon Maples, who ran for a seat in Florida’s House, lost a special election for the district that includes Mar-a-Lago to Democrat Emily Gregory. But Maples will face Gregory again in the general election after winning the republican nomination.
The president endorsed Catalina Lauf to replace Donalds in the governor’s race, but she ultimately lost.
Rep. Cory Mills also ran with the president’s endorsement, but was ousted in his primary to Ryan Elijah. Trump has since endorsed Elijah ahead of the general election.
Georgia
Senate
Rep. Mike Collins won the Republican nomination for Senate after Trump endorsed him ahead of the June runoff. Collins defeated former college football coach Derek Dooley, who was backed by Gov. Brian Kemp. Collins will face Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in November.
House
Trump-backed incumbents Rich McCormick, Austin Scott, Brian Jack, Rick Allen, and Andrew Clyde all secured their Republican nominations.
Trump also endorsed Clay Fuller in the special election to replace former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Fuller won the seat in a runoff general election.
State Rep. Houston Gaines also won the Republican nomination for the House.
Jim Kingston, who is seeking the 1st Congressional District seat previously held by his father, former Rep. Jack Kingston, won the Republican nomination after receiving Trump’s endorsement.
Trump later endorsed John Cowan in the race to replace Rep. Barry Loudermilk, who had previously received Trump’s endorsement but announced he would not seek reelection. Cowan won the Republican nomination.
State
Trump endorsed Lt. Gov. Burt Jones for governor, but Jones lost the Republican runoff to Rick Jackson. Jones had led the May primary, but Jackson defeated him in the June runoff. Trump subsequently endorsed Jackson.
Trump also backed Brian Strickland for attorney general and Tim Fleming for secretary of state. Both won their Republican nominations.
Idaho
Senate
Sen. Jim Risch won the Republican nomination for reelection after receiving Trump’s endorsement.
House
Reps. Russ Fulcher and Mike Simpson both won their Republican primaries after receiving Trump’s backing.
State
Gov. Brad Little and Lt. Gov. Scott Bedke both won their Republican nominations after receiving Trump’s endorsements.
Illinois
House
Reps. Mike Bost, Mary Miller and Darin LaHood all won their Republican primaries after receiving Trump’s endorsements.
Trump did not endorse Republican Senate candidate Don Tracy.
Indiana
House
Reps. Marlin Stutzman, Jim Baird, Victoria Spartz, Jefferson Shreve, Mark Messmer, Rudy Yakym, and Erin Houchin all won their Republican primaries after receiving Trump’s endorsements.
Trump also backed Barb Regnitz in the 1st Congressional District, and she won the Republican nomination.
State
Trump endorsed Tracy Powell, Paula Copenhaver, Blake Fiechter, Jeff Ellington, Brenda Wilson, Trevor De Vries, and Michelle Davis in Republican state Senate races.
Powell, Fiechter, Ellington, De Vries, and Davis won their primaries.
Copenhaver’s race against incumbent state Sen. Spencer Deery initially appeared to be a three-vote loss for Trump’s endorsed candidate. However, an Indiana Recount Commission later reversed the result, finding Copenhaver ahead by three votes. Deery has appealed the recount decision, and the Indiana Supreme Court was considering the case.
Wilson lost her primary to incumbent state Sen. Greg Goode.
Iowa
Senate
Rep. Ashley Hinson won the Republican nomination for the open Senate seat after receiving Trump’s endorsement. She will face Democrat Josh Turek in November.
House
Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn both won their Republican primaries after receiving Trump’s backing.
Trump also endorsed former state Rep. Joe Mitchell and Siouxland Chamber of Commerce President Chris McGowen for open House seats. Both won their Republican nominations.
State
Trump endorsed Rep. Randy Feenstra for governor, but Feenstra lost the Republican primary to businessman Zach Lahn. The defeat marked one of Trump’s early high-profile endorsement losses of the primary season.
Kansas
Senate
Sen. Roger Marshall won the Republican nomination for reelection after receiving Trump’s endorsement.
House
Reps. Tracy Mann, Derek Schmidt, and Ron Estes all won their Republican primaries with Trump’s backing.
State
State Senate President Ty Masterson won the Republican nomination for governor after receiving Trump’s endorsement.
Kentucky
Senate
Trump endorsed Rep. Andy Barr to succeed retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell. Barr won the Republican nomination and will face Democrat Charles Booker in November.
House
Reps. James Comer, Brett Guthrie, Ralph Alvarado, and Hal Rogers all won their Republican primaries after receiving Trump’s endorsements.
Trump also backed Ed Gellrein in a primary challenge against Rep. Thomas Massie. Gellrein defeated Massie and secured the Republican nomination.
Louisiana

Trump endorsed Rep. Julia Letlow in the race to challenge incumbent Sen. Bill Cassidy. Letlow won the Republican nomination.
House
Reps. Steve Scalise, Clay Higgins and House Speaker Mike Johnson all secured their Republican nominations after receiving Trump’s backing. Higgins was unopposed.
Maine
Senate
Sen. Susan Collins, who ran unopposed in her primary, has received Trump’s backing. She will face Democratic nominee Troy Jackson in what is expected to be one of the most closely watched races of this election cycle.
House
Trump endorsed former Gov. Paul LePage for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. LePage was unopposed in the Republican primary and advanced to the general election.
Maryland
House
Rep. Andy Harris won the Republican nomination for Maryland’s 1st Congressional District after receiving Trump’s endorsement.
Michigan
Senate
Trump endorsed former Rep. Mike Rogers for the open Senate seat. Rogers was unopposed in the Republican primary and will face Democrat Abdul el Sayed in November.
Trump had previously asked former Rep. Bill Huizenga not to challenge Rogers for the nomination. Huizenga subsequently ran for the House but did not receive Trump’s endorsement.
House
Trump-backed Reps. Jack Bergman, John Moolenaar, Tim Walberg, Tom Barrett, and Lisa McClain all won their Republican primaries.
Trump also endorsed newcomers Amir Hassan and Mike Bouchard.
Bouchard won his primary, while Hassan lost his bid for the 8th Congressional District. Hassan was the only Trump-endorsed House candidate in Michigan to lose his primary.

Berger lost his primary by 23 votes, making him one of the most prominent state-level Trump endorsement losses of the early primary season.

Trump endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy for governor. Ramaswamy won the Republican primary with more than 80% of the vote.
Oklahoma

Rep. Kevin Hern won the Republican nomination in the special election to fill the Senate seat vacated when Markwayne Mullin became Homeland Security secretary. Trump endorsed Hern after Mullin left the race.
House
Reps. Josh Brecheen, Frank Lucas, Tom Cole, and Stephanie Bice all won their Republican primaries after receiving Trump’s endorsements.
Trump initially endorsed Jackson Lahmeyer for the open 1st Congressional District seat. Lahmeyer advanced to a runoff but then suspended his campaign. Trump shifted his endorsement to state Rep. Mark Tedford, who advanced to the runoff and ultimately secured the Republican nomination.

Rep. Russell Fry and state Sen. Wes Climer were also endorsed by Trump and advanced without primary opposition.

South Dakota

Sen. Bill Hagerty won the Republican nomination for reelection after receiving Trump’s endorsement.

Reps. Diana Harshbarger, Tim Burchett, Chuck Fleischmann, Scott DesJarlais, Matt Van Epps, and David Kustoff all won their Republican primaries after receiving Trump’s backing.
Trump also endorsed Brent Taylor for the 9th Congressional District, and Taylor won the Republican nomination.
Rep. Andy Ogles, however, lost his Republican primary to former state Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher despite Trump’s endorsement. Ogles was the only Trump-endorsed Tennessee congressional candidate to lose his primary. Trump later switched his endorsement to Hatcher.

Trump endorsed Sen. Marsha Blackburn for governor following her primary win. Blackburn will advance to the general election.
Trump also backed Kenny Cody for the 11th State House District, and Cody won his Republican primary.
Texas

Trump did not endorse incumbent Sen. John Cornyn. Instead, he backed Attorney General Ken Paxton shortly before the Republican runoff, in what became one of the most bitter Republican primaries of this election cycle.
Paxton defeated Cornyn by 28 points in the runoff and will face Democrat James Talarico in November.

Trump initially endorsed Rep. Tony Gonzales, who advanced to a runoff but withdrew from the race before the runoff after a major scandal involving a staffer emerged. Brandon Herrera, who had received the most votes in the initial primary, subsequently became the Republican nominee and received Trump’s endorsement.
Tom Sell also won the Republican runoff for the 19th Congressional District and subsequently received Trump’s endorsement.

Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick both won their Republican primaries after receiving Trump’s endorsements.
Trump also endorsed David Cook and Leigh Wambsganss for state Senate.

Reps. Blake Moore, Celeste Maloy, and Mike Kennedy all won their Republican primaries after receiving Trump’s endorsements.
Rep. Burgess Owens also received Trump’s endorsement but later announced his retirement.
Virginia

Reps. Rob Wittman, Jennifer Kiggans, John McGuire, Ben Cline, and Morgan Griffith all won their Republican primaries after receiving Trump’s endorsements.
Trump did not endorse a candidate in the Senate race against Democratic Sen. Mark Warner.

Trump endorsed Amanda McKinney and Michael Baumgartner, both of whom won their Republican primaries.
The president also backed state Sen. John Braun for the 3rd Congressional District, and Braun won the Republican nomination.
West Virginia

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito won the Republican nomination for reelection after receiving Trump’s endorsement.
