The United States launched strikes at Iran on Sunday afternoon for the first time in over a month.
The US military struck Larak Island after observing Iranian forces preparing to deploy sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, a US official told CNN. Strikes hit two launchers to protect the commercial shipping lane after US Central Command finished clearing the mines throughout the waterway last week.
“U.S. forces are monitoring the area closely and remain prepared to protect the free flow of commerce through this essential waterway,” the official said.
