Washington, D.C.’s Democratic mayoral nominee, socialist Janeese Lewis George, seeks to roll back the Metropolitan Police Department’s cooperation with federal immigration officials and the Trump administration’s “Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force” on her first day in office.
As the Democratic nominee in deep-blue D.C., Lewis George is expected to win the Nov. 3 general election and be tasked with leading D.C. under a Republican administration. The socialist mayoral candidate has already drawn the attention of President Donald Trump, who has said he will meet with her, while calling her a “communist” who wants to “welcome Criminal Illegal Aliens back into our Beloved Capital, resist Anti-Crime Crackdowns, [and] Defund the Police.”
In an interview with NBC4 Washington, Lewis George spoke about what her first week as mayor would look like.
“Probably on that Monday, what you will see is my administration signing an executive order rescinding the participation with our law enforcement in federal immigration enforcement,” Lewis George told the outlet.
She also said she would sign an executive order rolling back MPD’s participation with the Safe and Beautiful Task Force, the measure that has resulted in over 16,000 arrests since it was first implemented just over a year ago. Lewis George said she wants to end “some of the actions that are included within that Safe and Beautiful Task Force.”
“It’s such a waste of American taxpayer dollars, what is happening, and again, it’s a strain on our officers,” Lewis George said of joint law enforcement efforts between MPD and federal officers. “My job as executive is to protect our officers as well. And so, yes, I am prepared to make an executive order to make sure that our officers do not have to participate in those types of efforts and can go back to participating in protecting D.C. residents.”
When specifically asked if, under her leadership, federal and local officers would still have joint roll calls and caravans as they do under the task force, Lewis George replied: “That is what I would like not to happen.”
Lewis George elaborated that her team is communicating with the White House about the details of scheduling a meeting between herself and Trump. The socialist candidate noted she is willing to “work with anyone to the benefit of D.C. residents” but will also “stand up to anyone, including the president,” for the same reason.
In June, Trump posted on Truth Social about Lewis George, announcing he would meet with her but would “not let [D.C.] be destroyed by a Communist adherent who has no intention to, MAKE WASHINGTON GREAT AGAIN!”

“Janeese Lewis George, the Communist who is almost certainly going to be elected Mayor of Washington, D.C.,” Trump wrote, “has stated that she wants to empty the prisons, make D.C. a Sanctuary City, oppose ICE, welcome Criminal Illegal Aliens back into our Beloved Capital, resist Anti-Crime Crackdowns, Defund the Police, continue and expand Cashless Bail, and so many other Capital destroying ‘things.’”
The Washington Examiner has reached out to the White House for comment on Lewis George’s remarks.
