Zelensky promises to ‘respond’ after ten killed in Russian missile strike in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed retaliation on Tuesday after Russia launched a “brutal attack” in his country. A Russian missile killed ten people and injured over a dozen more in a village in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region. Zelensky described the area as “surrounded only by residential buildings” and posted pictures of the damage on his social media.

Russia’s strike on Ukraine comes amid a reported increase in attacks against civilian locations. Private houses, a post office, and retail shopping locations were all reportedly damaged in the attack.

Zelensky posted about the Russian strike on social media on Tuesday morning.

“This morning, the Russians launched a brutal attack on a busy intersection in Pechenihy, Kharkiv region – a location with a post office and stores, surrounded only by residential buildings,” posted Zelensky.

“As of now, 10 people have been reported killed,” said Zelensky. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Many people have been injured and are receiving all necessary medical care. First responders have already extinguished the fire, and all emergency and response services continue working at the site. All the circumstances of this tragedy are being established.”

Zelensky criticized Russia for continuing to strike known civilian locations and vowed retaliation. He also called on allies to take action against Russia to hamper the country’s ability to continue to carry out military strikes. He urged Ukraine’s “partners” to apply “pressure” on Russia.

“We will definitely respond to this Russian strike,” Zelensky said. “And it is equally important that our partners also complement our just kinetic responses with their own actions to put pressure on Russia and support Ukraine.”

Russia’s attack comes after Ukraine launched one of its largest drone strikes of the war over the weekend, launching over 600 drones at Russia. Russian air defenses reportedly shot down over 200 Ukrainian drones between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

“Tonight and in the morning, air defense and electronic warfare forces were repelling a large-scale drone attack on the Moscow region,” said Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov in a post on the messaging service Telegram.

Several people were wounded in the Ukraine drone strikes, and multiple buildings were damaged, according to Russian media reports.
