President Donald Trump is expected to campaign for interim Sen. Darline Graham Nordone (R-SC) in South Carolina on Friday ahead of the Aug. 25 primary runoff.
The South Carolina state GOP canceled its Senate Stump Stop in Anderson County in anticipation of Trump’s visit on Friday to Myrtle Beach “on behalf of one of the runoff candidates.”
Trump previously endorsed Graham Nordone’s bid to succeed her brother, the late Lindsey Graham, in the Senate.
But she was unable to prevail in the primary. Graham Nordone will now face Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), a House Freedom Caucus member, in the primary runoff in what has become a proxy battle between Trump and his former 2024 presidential primary rival Nikki Haley.
Graham Nordone has faced skepticism over her political newcomer status, but Trump’s endorsement power has helped her hold her own in the Senate battle.
SUPREME COURT REJECTS TRUMP’S RENEWED APPEAL IN E. JEAN CARROLL LAWSUIT
Trump has faced a few primary endorsement losses this cycle. His boosting of Graham Nordone in next week’s primary runoff would help beat back questions about his kingmaker status in the GOP.
The Washington Examiner reached out to the White House for confirmation.
