Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha mocked Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) Native American heritage claim after Minnesota Democratic Senate nominee Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan announced she is running as the “first Native American woman” senator if elected to the United States Senate.
“I mean, Peggy Flanagan, she better break out that old peace pipe and get over to Sen. Warren’s tipi like pronto, and make sure she corrects the record, or Liz Warren may inflict the ultimate punishment and campaign with her down the stretch while saying ‘that’s my kind of girl,’” Concha said on Fox News’s Hannity Thursday.
“Unless you’re counting senators that have 1/1024th the DNA of a Native American, then Peggy Flanagan did not break that ceiling, that was Liz Warren,” Concha said. “And for her to try to steal that title from her, oh boy, there’s going to be some real problems the next time these two try to get together on the campaign trail.”
Flanagan is Ojibwe and a member of the White Earth Nation. According to her campaign website, “If elected, she’ll be the first Native American woman to ever serve in the U.S. Senate.”
In 2018, Warren was criticized over the accuracy of DNA test results she released to show she had Native American heritage. In 2019, Warren apologized to the Cherokee Nation for publicly sharing the test results. The Democratic Massachusetts senator had previously identified herself as an “American Indian” on a 1986 registration card for the State Bar of Texas.

Fox News anchor Sean Hannity asked Concha why politicians fail to admit when they are wrong.
“That’s the thing, Sean,” Concha said. “Even after the DNA test comes out and says she has 1/1024 the genetic lineage of a Native American, she actually went on social media and said, ‘See? I was right!’ I mean, what the hell? Just say that you got it wrong, or maybe you heard the story wrong, and you used it to get by in your career. It’s a whole bowl of wrong.”
