Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) came out strongly against Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) after further revelations emerged around his alleged abuse of his ex-wife, Emily Moreno.
Scott was asked about an alleged “double standard” by which Democrats and Republicans in Congress handle allegations of abuse or misconduct, to which the senator said no such double standard should exist. He then said congressmen “shouldn’t be in office” when asked about those with abuse allegations against them, including Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) and Miller.
“The best thing is the public is gonna take them out of office,” Scott clarified when asked about Miller explicitly, largely repeating his answer when pressed.
The senator’s response was more forceful than that of President Donald Trump, who attended the wedding of Moreno and Miller and voiced sadness over the matter, saying he would leave it to the two families to work out.
“I know Max. He’s a good person. I mean, I always thought he was a very good person, and I’m going to let the families figure that out,” Trump said in the Oval Office. “Those families, I know they’re working on it. It’s a very sad thing, especially when you know somebody so well, to be going through that. But it’s accusations, and I’m going to let them figure that out.”
Miller and Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), are in the middle of a custody battle over their daughter, who was born during their brief marriage from 2022 to 2024. As part of the custody battle, thousands of court documents have emerged documenting allegations of verbal and physical abuse from Miller against his ex-wife, his daughter, and drug abuse.
Among the allegations against Miller is that he scalded Emily Moreno’s chest with hot water from a skillet, held a gun to her head, pushed her against a wall, and that he fractured their daughter’s collarbone.
Miller has denied all the charges and blamed them on his wife’s mental health struggles. Over the weekend, he released files he believed exonerated him, but many observers noted that the files portrayed him in a negative light. In one audio file, he repeatedly avoided directly denying that he was abusing drugs, only saying that he doesn’t have any needles in his bedroom.

Bernie Moreno called for Miller’s resignation on Sunday, saying the congressman needed “serious psychological help.”
“As he has admitted privately, Max Miller needs serious psychological help. He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter,” the senator posted on X. “If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them. He should not serve in the House of Representatives.”
