A 16-year-old boy has gone missing while swimming in the Potomac River by Great Falls Park.

David Pazos, a spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, said Swift Water Team units were dispatched to the area for a missing person in the water at around 6:15 a.m. It’s not clear if the boy was swimming late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

“Initial reports were the male was with a group, this male entered the water and did not resurface. Water Teams are actively searching,” Pazos said in a post on X.

The incident comes shortly after a 20-year-old college student was found dead after going missing while swimming in the same area.
