Trump casts doubt on landing Iran deal Friday: ‘You never know’

.

President Donald Trump gave a cryptic answer Wednesday that cast doubt on Friday’s planned signing ceremony for the U.S.-Iranian 60-day ceasefire deal.

Trump spoke to reporters Wednesday during his bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he defended the memorandum of understanding ending the Iran war.

Still, when asked about his confidence that Friday’s signing will happen, Trump didn’t directly answer.

“Deals are amazing. I’ve done them all my life. I’ve gone into deals that were 100%, and they don’t happen. I’ve gone into deals that there was no chance of getting them done, and it happens, and they happen easily,” he stated. “So, you never know what deals do, but you’re going to find out pretty soon. I think it’ll be done. They want to sign, they want to get back to a normal life.”

With the president in Europe this week for the G7 summit, Vice President JD Vance, who is expected to lead the U.S. delegation to Geneva, Switzerland, for the signing on Friday, has taken point on selling the deal to domestic audiences.

Vance said this week that both the United States and Iran had “virtually” signed onto the deal on Sunday and promised that the text of the MOU would be released to Congress and the public ahead of Friday’s ceremony.
