Ex-Border Patrol official Bovino not ruling out 2028 run if that’s ‘what it takes’

.

Former Border Patrol Commander-at-Large Gregory Bovino suggested on Monday that he is not ruling out a 2028 presidential run.

Bovino admitted as much on social media in response to a NewsNation report that says he launched a committee to explore a possible campaign for the White House.

“NewsNation is reporting I’m exploring a run for President in 2028,” he said on X. “Here’s the truth: My one and only priority is deporting the 106 million illegals who are here. That’s it.”

While he claims mass deportations remain his top priority, Bovino retired from his leadership post at Customs and Border Protection at the end of March.

In the commander role, he previously led immigration crackdowns in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The former Border Patrol official’s tenure was marked by aggressive crowd-control tactics.

Less than three months after his departure from the Trump administration, Bovino is considering running for president.

“My commitment is simple, liberate America from this invasion and restore our quality of life,” he added. “If running for President is what it takes to actually get it done, then all options are on the table.”

Bovino confirmed to NewsNation that he will proceed with a campaign “if it all comes together.”

The exploratory committee launched a “Bovino 2028” website, presumably to gauge interest from supporters. On the website’s homepage, an image shows Bovino wearing an olive-colored overcoat that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) has compared to a Nazi uniform.

Defending his public appearances in the coat, Bovino has said the winter uniform was issued by Border Patrol in the late 1990s.

The website portrays Bovino as the only one who can crack down on illegal immigration, even as President Donald Trump has made that a key priority of his second term.

“Following The Commander’s maximum effectiveness in quelling the foreign hordes that have subsumed our nation’s cities, both large and small, the American people witnessed what true leadership, powered by a warrior mindset, actually looks like as The Commander endeavored to restore order and national sovereignty,” the website reads.

“America as a whole has already fallen to the grasps of the foreign global one-world hellscape ushered in by Barack Hussein Obama,” it continues. “However we believe that The Commander can not only usher in the great restoration of America, but also cement the continuity of a strong and sovereign United States that will last a millennia.”

It remains to be seen whether Bovino will run for president in two years.

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are among the top Republican contenders to succeed Trump. No candidates from either party have launched 2028 presidential campaigns yet, and they likely will not do so until the midterm elections are over.
