Talarico tries to backtrack past comments: Byron York

.

Washington Examiner chief political correspondent Byron York said Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico is attempting to “undo” his previous remarks since the election became a two-man race following Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton winning the Republican primary.

“What [Talarico] has been doing now that the race has gone down to a two-man race is trying to undo and backtrack from some of the worst things he said during the woke era,” York said Thursday on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle.

York said Talarico’s campaign “template” is attempting to backtrack his comments and accusing Paxton of being corrupt.

Republicans have used Talarico’s past remarks to characterize him as left-wing and progressive.

Talarico has faced criticisms mainly for his remarks on gender. In the past, Talarico said God is “nonbinary” and that there are six genders.

Talarico expressed concerns about voter ID laws impacting free and fair elections in Texas, saying his campaign will need to “overcome that.”

York said Democrats have been talking about voter suppression for years when asked if they are laying the groundwork to question the legitimacy of the Senate race if Talarico loses.

“He could become a Stacey Abrams-like figure in Texas,” York said. “Clearly he’s trying to lay the groundwork for that sort of thing.”
