President Donald Trump will host a brunch on Friday honoring the mothers of American service members killed in combat and people killed by illegal immigrants.
Trump is slated to speak at noon in the White House Rose Garden, the second Mother’s Day celebration hosted by the White House this week.
The Daily Wire reported Friday morning that the attendees will include Anna Zarutska. The killing of her daughter, Iryna, ignited a conversation about violent crime in battleground North Carolina and beyond last fall. Zarutska was a special guest of the White House at Trump’s State of the Union this year.
Alicia Lopez, the mother of Marine Corps Cpl. Hunter Lopez, will also attend Friday’s brunch. Cpl. Lopez was one of 13 American service members killed at Abbey Gate during former President Joe Biden’s evacuation of Afghanistan in 2021. White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins are also expected to attend.
On Wednesday, the president, flanked by first lady Melania Trump, held a separate event in honor of Mother’s Day.
During those remarks, the president recounted a story of how he previously took heat from the media for posting a Mother’s Day message honoring his wife, “Melody.”
TRUMP JOKES AUTOCORRECT MADE IT SEEM LIKE HE FORGOT MELANIA’S NAME
“And I work very fast, very fast,” he told the crowd. “I’d talk about her, and I’d say, ‘And Melania is fantastic and Happy Mother’s Day, Melania, our great first lady, Melania,’ but it would spell-correct and word-correct to Melody.”
“They said he didn’t know the name of his wife. He keeps calling her,” the president continued, drawing laughter from the first lady and other attendees. “And I said, ‘What the hell is wrong with this machine?’ I didn’t know about that little feature, but I got that corrected eventually.”
