President Donald Trump will welcome Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for a bilateral meeting at the White House on Thursday at 11:00 a.m.

Trump and Lula, who have had quite the contentious relationship since Lula defeated Trump ally Jair Bolsonaro in 2022, will discuss issues related to the nations’ economies and security, per multiple reports. The pair is also expected to discuss a deal to fight organized crime, according to Reuters.
Lula, a left-wing president, has sparred with Trump over his election against former President Bolsonaro and the previous U.S.-imposed tariffs on the South American nation. Trump had imposed tariffs on key Brazilian exports such as coffee and beef, but walked them back in November 2025 in a positive sign for relations between the countries.
