Washington Examiner economics columnist Tiana Lowe Doescher argued that the United States is “taking out the trash” with the Iran war, and criticized Democratic Illinois congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh for her stance on the conflict.
“I know Kat and her friends like to believe that this is Israel making us do this, but I think it’s important to remember that the Iranian-funded Hamas killed 42 Americans on Oct. 7,” Doescher said on Fox News at Night on Friday.
Democrats have grown critical of the war in Iran, arguing the U.S. should not be involved. President Donald Trump and Iran have both made peace proposals. Trump said Friday, however, that the U.S. may hold off on further negotiations unless Iran accepts a proposal that favors America.
Abughazaleh appeared on CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip on Thursday, where she said arguments should not be made about strategies in Iran because the war is irrelevant.
“Why are we talking about the strategy of this? This isn’t a legal war, this is terrorism,” Abughazaleh said. “We are turning our military into pirates; we are seizing civilian vessels.”
Doescher responded to Abughazelah, noting that “those ships that we are taking, those are sanctioned ships. This has nothing to do with piracy.”

Abughazelah has been viewed with controversy as content creators step into the political world. She lost the Illinois Democratic primary on March 17.
Doescher said this is “us taking out the trash for the rest of the world, and you have to just hate America in order to not see that.”
