First lady Melania Trump joined the United Kingdom’s Queen Camilla at the White House on Tuesday for a technology-in-education event as part of the first lady’s platform, “Fostering the Future Together.”
“Today, students all over the world can visit historically important sites, learn about the past, and be inspired,” said Trump. “Our children don’t need to board airplanes to experience history anymore. Kids can have an educational experience that is fundamentally richer and more memorable than ever before, through [virtual reality] and [artificial intelligence].”
The event is likely part of Trump’s strategic approach of limited public appearances centered on family-friendly matters and a child-centric focus.

The two women toured the White House tennis pavilion and chatted with students, some of whom are currently Presidential AI Challenge state champions, as a band played a medley of songs, including Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” and the Temptations’s “My Girl.”
The students were wearing VR goggles to view landmarks in the U.K., including Snowdonia, Giant’s Causeway, Stonehenge, and the exterior of Buckingham Palace.

They were also wearing glasses from Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Quest headset to view American artifacts picked by Trump to honor the ties between the United States and the U.K. The headsets were adorned with the “Fostering the Future Together” logo and U.S. and U.K. flags.
The artifacts they viewed included a portrait of President John Adams, the first U.S. ambassador to the U.K.; a World War II situation map prepared for President Franklin D. Roosevelt; a bronze bust of Prime Minister Winston Churchill; and Staffordshire ceramics reflecting early trans-Atlantic cultural exchange, according to the pool report.

Trump wore a pair of Meta glasses to view the Churchill bust from the White House collection, not the bust in the Oval Office, according to a pool report.
One boy in attendance asked Queen Camilla, “Do you want to try these?” but the royal monarch politely declined the request.

The two women took pictures with the students gathered for the event, both with and without the glasses. Queen Camillia also gave the students gifts, including Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse, and Trump gave them her challenge coin.
Trump was also asked about her safety after an attempted assassination attempt on President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. “Very well, thank you,” she responded.
The first lady was wearing a white silk and wool jacket and skirt by the Ralph Lauren Collection. She was also wearing a straw hat by Eric Javits and Manolo Blahnik mat snake pumps.
Donald Trump and King Charles III, meanwhile, were holding a private bilateral away from cameras after the first couple welcomed the King and Queen to the White House earlier on Tuesday.
“It was a really good meeting. He’s a fantastic person. They’re incredible people, and it’s a real honor,” the president told reporters afterward.

The first couple escorted the King and Queen to their car as they departed White House grounds.
The event on Tuesday comes after the first lady joined Queen Camilla for a tour of Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House before joining Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, for a tour of Frogmore House and gardens in September 2025.
