Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha ripped late-night comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert over their routines this week for the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
The “insufferable Jimmy Kimmel once again shows that the only difference between genius and stupidity is that stupidity has its limits,” Concha said on Fox News’s Hannity on Friday.
Kimmel attacked President Donald Trump’s appearance and ego on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday. He also went after first lady Melania Trump.
“Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow,” Kimmel said.
“To hear him before say that Melania Trump has the glow of an expectant widow — is that humor? That’s a comedian?” Concha asked.
Concha criticized ABC for giving Kimmel a new contract. Kimmel was briefly suspended from the show after his comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. ABC brought Kimmel back shortly after.
“I guess they think it’s good enough, because as long as the show is like the Trump version of Groundhog Day, where every day is the same thing from the pope of late night, I guess that’s good enough for them,” Concha said.
Colbert mocked Trump, appearing to imitate him, saying, “All you reporters are enemies of the people. I hate you all. And if you call me, I will pick up every time.”
Concha turned that against Colbert and said, “Colbert makes a joke like ‘Yeah, Trump will always pick up the call when a reporter calls.’ Yeah, that’s a little different than the previous guy that was in the White House for four years, where he ran away from the microphones when questions were asked like he was Saquon Barkley,” Concha said. “You never saw Biden move that fast before.”
Traditionally, a comedian headlines the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner; however, Oz Pearlman, a mentalist, will be this year’s host.
“Oz Pearlman has infinitely more talent than this guy [Kimmel], or Colbert could ever dream of having,” Concha said.
CBS announced it was canceling the Late Show with Stephen Colbert in July 2025.
“This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content, or other matters happening at Paramount,” CBS said in a statement.
TRUMP’S WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS’ ASSOCIATION DINNER HOMECOMING
“There really is a God with Stephen Colbert being gone in less than three weeks,” Concha said.
The Late Show is scheduled to end in late May.
