Nancy Mace moves to expel Cory Mills over domestic violence and stolen valor allegations

.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is moving to expel fellow Republican Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) from the House over accusations of domestic violence, stolen valor, and profiteering.

Mace announced her motion to oust Mills on Monday afternoon, saying in a statement that “the swamp has protected Cory Mills for far too long and we are done letting it slide.”

“We tried to censure him and strip him from his committee assignments,” Mace said. “Both parties blocked it, but we are not backing down.”

She continued, “The evidence against Mills is overwhelming: beating women and telling them to lie about it, cyberstalking women, lying about his military service, and profiting off his seat. Any Member who votes to keep him here is voting to protect a woman beater and a fraud. He needs to be expelled immediately.”

Mace previously tried to censure Mills and remove him from the House foreign affairs and armed services committees last year. That effort was blocked on the House floor and sent to the House ethics committee, which has been investigating Mills since August 2024.

Mills has denied any wrongdoing. In a statement posted online after Mace introduced her resolution, Mills challenged her to “call the vote forward” and also cited the House ethics investigation against her.

“Rather than political fundraising theatrics by Mace ‘introduced’ ignoring due process, why not notice for a vote?” Mills wrote. “Nancy thinks allegations and accusations is due process and should concern South Carolinians if she was to be considered for Governor.”

Mace’s expulsion resolution against Mills comes after reporting that he was considering bringing his own expulsion resolution against Mace. Mace is under investigation by the House ethics committee over allegations of financial misconduct.

“Cory Mills lied about his military service, has been accused of beating women, has a restraining order against him, and has allegedly been stuffing his own pockets with federal contracts while sitting in Congress,” Mace said in reponse to the report. “As a survivor, I will always stand up and right the wrongs of others. He is only coming after me because he knows he’s next.”

The Florida Republican has been under increased scrutiny following the resignations last week of Reps. Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales, who were accused of sexual misconduct.

His ouster has been paired with Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL), who is accused of stealing $5 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and funneling a portion of it to her campaign account.

The House ethics committee found Cherfilus-McCormick committed wrongdoing on 27 charges against her in March and is slated to meet Tuesday to announce recommended sanctions.

JOHNSON BACKS EXPELLING SHELIA CHERFILUS-MCCORMICK FROM HOUSE

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has said Cherfilus-McCormick should be expelled from the House, saying the ethics panel found “alarming facts” about her that warranted her ouster.

However, Johnson did not go so far as to call for Mills’s ouster, telling reporters he planned to look into the “status” of the House ethics committee’s investigation last week.
