Mark Warner announces death of his 36-year-old daughter

Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) announced the death of his adult daughter, Madison, on Monday. She was 36.

“We are heartbroken beyond words by the passing of our beloved daughter, Madison, 36, after a decades-long battle with juvenile diabetes and other health issues,” Warner said in a joint statement with his wife, Lisa Collis. “She filled our lives with love and laughter, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void.

“We are grateful for the loving support of friends and family during this difficult time and ask for privacy as we navigate this profound loss,” Warner and Collis wrote.

The married couple has two other daughters: Gillian and Eliza.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) joined reporters in promptly posting messages of support for Warner and his family during this difficult time.

“Please join me in praying for Senator Mark Warner and his family,” Lee posted on X. “This is heartbreaking news.”

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) did not immediately respond to the news on social media.

It is unclear whether the senator will take some time off to mourn the death in the family. Serving in the Senate since 2009, Warner is up for reelection this year.
