Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha said the Democratic Party is distancing itself from Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) after exhausting his role to “take out” President Donald Trump.
Swalwell suspended his bid for governor of California on Sunday night following a weekend of multiple women accusing him of sexual misconduct. The lawmaker faced bipartisan calls to drop his campaign, and others are also urging him to resign from Congress.
Concha noted that a San Francisco journalist said the allegations against Swalwell “have been an open secret for years” but only became public knowledge this month. He added that the media “certainly didn’t do its job” in investigating Swalwell.
“Obviously, those allegations of his affair with a Chinese spy, Fang Fang, that still didn’t stop leaders of the Democratic Party, to your point earlier, from elevating him to the House Intel Committee?” Concha told host Stuart Varney Monday on Fox Business’s Varney & Co.
“And this clown even ran for president in 2020! I mean, he was on CNN and MSNBC so often, you would think he has like an open cot there just to sleep,” Concha continued. “And he was doing interviews that were the rhetorical equivalent of a hot stone massage. They were always, ‘bad Trump, bad Trump,’ and nothing about Eric Swalwell himself.”
“So yeah, karma, it really is a female dog, Stuart, and it really has come for Eric Swalwell, given the hypocrisy of this guy,” Concha said.
Varney said his “premise” of Swalwell dropping out is that the Democratic Party kept him in the party “simply because he’s a leading Trump hater.” Concha agreed, calling Swalwell “the ultimate useful idiot” that could fulfill his “sole purpose” to say a viral line against Trump.
DOES IT MATTER THAT ERIC SWALWELL IS MARRIED?
Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton, like Concha, told the Washington Examiner that Swalwell’s allegations had “been an open secret for years,” and greatly criticized people who previously backed him. He also said Democrats only care about power, and they’re now “coming out with all this fake outrage.”
Swalwell is facing a looming expulsion effort from Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), who vowed to file the motion over the weekend. He is also being investigated by the Department of Homeland Security over allegations that he kept his family’s Brazilian nanny employed in the United States after her temporary visa expired.
