The FBI has opened a federal criminal investigation into an assault on Turning Point USA contributor Savanah Hernandez.

Hernandez, a journalist for TPUSA’s Frontlines, said she was “violently” shoved when she was covering a protest in Minnesota on Saturday, identifying her assaulter as Chris Ostroushko. Article III Project Attorney Mike Davis said he is pushing for federal charges on X. Hernandez thanked FBI Director Kash Patel for opening a federal criminal investigation in a follow-up post.

“Thank you to Mike for elevating this to the highest levels of the government,” Hernandez said on X. “For far too long, the violent left has been allowed to get away with repeated attacks on journalists. I’m looking forward to justice being served after what happened yesterday.”

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon also confirmed the investigation, saying, “Correct,” while reposting a report on it.

Hernandez shared footage of her assault on X, where a second angle showed Ostroushko having to be held back by five men as he tried to charge after her. She said he “Repeatedly called me a bitch and very clearly” appeared to want to hurt her, “Even worse than he did.”

Ostroushko was previously interviewed by The Bulwark in January, where he discussed his participation in Minneapolis protests. He said the city had become a “military zone” amid Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s deployment.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the Washington Examiner Monday that Ostroushko was among four people arrested on Saturday. The office said Hernandez came forward and wanted to press charges after being assaulted.

The office said that one of the suspects who authorities detained tried to evade arrest, and her boyfriend, who was also arrested, tried several times to interfere with the arrest. Another man struck a sheriff’s deputy with a train horn and will be charged by complaint, the office said.

The Washington Examiner contacted Hernandez for comment.
