President Donald Trump issued his “complete and total endorsement” to Steve Hilton on early Monday morning in the 2026 California gubernatorial election.
Trump called Hilton a “great man” and said he can help restore California to its former glory, while criticizing Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and California Democrats. The endorsement of Hilton came early Monday morning in a post on Trump’s Truth Social account.
“I have known and respected Steve Hilton, who is running for Governor of California, for many years,” Trump said in his post. “He is a truly fine man, one who has watched as this once great State has gone to Hell.”
Trump highlighted many of the problems facing California and blamed Newsom for those problems. He emphasized high crime rates and taxes and noted that Californians are relocating to other states to escape those burdens. Trump used his regularly-used moniker of “Newscum” when referring to the California governor, accusing him of doing a terrible job of running the Golden State.
“Gavin Newscum and the Democrats have done an absolutely horrendous job,” Trump said. “People are fleeing, crime is increasing, and Taxes are the highest of any State in the Country, maybe the World. Steve can turn it around, before it is too late, and, as President, I will help him to do so! With Federal help, and a Great Governor, like Steve Hilton, California can be better than ever before!”

“Steve Hilton has my complete and total endorsement,” Trump said. “He will be a great governor and, importantly, will never let you down!”
Hilton is a former British political strategist, adviser, and commentator. He hosted “The Next Revolution” on Fox News from 2017 to 2023. The most recent Berkley IGS poll shows Hilton leading all other candidates in California’s open primary by 1%, followed by Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco. The top two candidates with the highest percentage, regardless of political party, advanced to the state’s general election in November. California’s primary is on June 2.
