Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) joked that Pam Bondi’s firing as attorney general was over the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling below $50,000 on Thursday.
Boebert’s post on X referenced a memorable moment from Bondi’s congressional hearing in February, when the then-attorney general said, “The Dow is over $50,000,” while discussing the administration’s handling of documents related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
President Donald Trump fired Bondi on Thursday, less than two months after this hearing.
“DOW fell below 50,000?” Boebert said on X.
The Dow is roughly at $46,500 on Thursday, according to MarketWatch.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) also took a shot at Bondi’s Dow Jones comment after her firing, parodying her as a contestant on the Trump-hosted The Apprentice reality television show.
Former Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz said Bondi “will be known as one of the great crime fighters of our time” on X. Gaetz was initially nominated by Trump to be his attorney general, though Gaetz withdrew the nomination about a week after.
TRUMP’S CHANCE TO REESTABLISH JUSTICE DEPARTMENT CREDIBILITY AFTER PAM BONDI FIRED
Trump said on Truth Social that Bondi did “a tremendous job” as attorney general, and that she would transition to an “important new job in the private sector.” He named Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as her interim replacement.
The Washington Examiner contacted Boebert’s office for comment.
