British judge shouts out Barron Trump while sentencing Russian domestic abuser he reported

President Donald Trump’s youngest son received a tip-of-the-hat from the British courts for his role in reporting a domestic abuse case last year.

Judge Joel Bennathan sentenced Matvei Rumiantsev, a 23-year-old Russian national, to two years in prison after being found guilty of assault for abusing his on-and-off girlfriend.

During the Friday sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court, the judge noted that Barron Trump was on a phone call with the abused woman when the assault began. The president’s son immediately called the British authorities to report the attack.

“At one stage in the violence, there was a call to or from her friend, Barron Trump,” Bennathan told Rumiantsev.

He continued, “He saw you beating her up, and you held the phone and filmed her, an ‌angry act to humiliate her. Mr. Trump properly and responsibly — despite being in the United States — made sure the emergency services here were called and he told them what he had seen.”

Prosecutors claimed that Rumiantsev flew into a rage after discovering that the woman was speaking with Barron Trump, grabbing her by the hair and beginning to hit her in view of the camera before the video call was ended.

The president’s son, then 19, scrambled to contact the appropriate authorities despite being in Florida at the time.

“I just got a call from a girl, you know. She’s getting beaten up,” Barron told British emergency dispatchers. “It’s really an emergency, please. I got a call from her with a guy beating her up.”

The victim testified in court that Barron Trump’s call to authorities “helped save my life.”

“That call was like a sign from God at that moment,” she said.

The entire situation played out less than two weeks before Donald Trump’s second inauguration.

The judge called Rumiantsev “totally unrepentant” and accused him of failing to accept blame for the assault.

“Your lack of insight and empathy was apparent at trial. You continue to try to blame the complainant for everything that has happened,” Bennathan said.

Rumiantsev, the son a highly successful Russian business entrepreneur, claimed that he was most upset with the woman “leading [Barron] on.”

“I am being portrayed as a jealous person who can lose his temper due to jealousy,” he told the court. “I want to just make clear that her actions towards [Barron] were wrong, and it was not fair. I was jealous to some extent.”

Rumiantsev was also found guilty of “perverting the course of justice” after it was discovered that he wrote letters and placed phone calls from prison urging the victim to drop the charges.

He was found not guilty of one case of rape and another case of intentional strangulation related to the assault, as well as two similar charges for a separate incident in November 2024.
