Cardi B endorses Jasmine Crockett in Texas Senate race

Cardi B endorsed Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) to be the Texas Democratic Senate nominee on her Instagram story Thursday, less than a week out from the competitive Texas Democratic primary.

Cardi B, who has been known to be outspoken on her political beliefs, urged her millions of followers to vote for Crockett, who is facing Texas state Rep. James Talarico in what is shaping up to be a close race ahead of the March 3 primary election.

“Listen up, y’all, early primary voting is happening right now in Texas, and we need Jasmine Crockett to win. She is running for U.S. Senate,” Cardi B said to her 164 million Instagram followers. “And if you want somebody that’s going to fight for your right, if you want somebody to fight for your community, if you want somebody that’s going to go up there and represent you and represent your issues …

“Please vote for my sister, Jasmine Crockett, because one thing about it, she’s going to fight her best. She’s going to fight whoever she has to so your voice and your problems could be heard,” the rapper said in a video. “Vote right now. This counts so much. Vote right now.”

Crockett secured another big endorsement last week from freshman Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD), who became the first senator to endorse Crockett and is one of two black female senators.

Two recent polls released earlier this month had Crockett leading Talarico, but an internal poll released Wednesday from Talarico has him with a 4-point advantage.

Both Democrats are aiming to flip the statewide seat in a red state. As the Republican primary appears headed to a runoff, the Democratic nominee will have over two months to campaign for the general election, while the top two Republicans fight for the nomination.

DOES JAMES TALARICO HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO FLIP THE TEXAS SENATE SEAT?

Crockett has quickly risen to fame, serving her second term in the lower chamber, as the GOP has strived to make her the face of the Democratic Party. The congresswoman has focused much of her campaign against President Donald Trump, with her launch video being a series of insults the president has said about her.

Talarico is studying to become a pastor and has focused much of his campaign on his faith. The 36-year-old has 1.2 million TikTok followers and is a former sixth-grade teacher in San Antonio.
