Karoline Leavitt teases Trump’s State of the Union guests and agenda

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has previewed President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump‘s guests, as well as the key agenda items the president will focus on during Tuesday night’s State of the Union address.

“The first lady will have two great children with her as part of her Fostering the Future initiative,” Leavitt told Fox & Friends Tuesday morning. “The president himself has invited some extraordinary guests this year who, again, truly exemplify what it means to be a patriotic American. Men and women who have served in our United States military.”

“He’ll also be telling the stories of everyday Americans who have directly benefited from his policies,” she continued.

TRUMP’S ECONOMIC TALKING POINTS FOR THE STATE OF THE UNION

The first lady’s guests include Sierra Burns, a beneficiary of Trump’s Foster Youth to Independence program, and Everest Nevraumont, a 10-year-old student from Austin, Texas, the New York Post reported.

Leavitt later claimed in a gaggle with reporters that the president will tout the administration’s domestic and foreign accomplishments over the past year, and propose an ambitious agenda for his remaining time in office.

“The president will lay out the case for why he and Republicans are better suited to tackle, continue tackling, the affordability crisis that was created by the Biden administration and Democrats on Capitol Hill,” she told reporters.

“You’re going to hear the president tout his signature tax cuts that every single Democrat in Congress voted against,” Leavitt added.

The GOP is in an uphill battle to retain control of both chambers of Congress as Trump’s sagging approval numbers threaten to help Democrats regain power. The address will give Trump a nationwide microphone to explain why his party is best suited to retain control of Congress.

Trump is also expected to address the ongoing partial government shutdown, which is impacting the Department of Homeland Security.

“He will call on Democrats in Congress to reopen the Department of Homeland Security,” said Leavitt. “It’s despicable that they have shut down this agency that is responsible not just for the deportations of murderers and criminals whom none of you, including Democrat politicians, would want living in your communities, but also FEMA, who is on the ground in the Northeast right now restoring electricity and power for families who have been impacted by the blizzard.”

Trump is also expected to address tensions with Iran, as a U.S. military buildup near the country is dividing Washington sharply along party lines.

“You’ll hear the president tout the accomplishments overseas of the United States military over the past year under his leadership, one of which, of course, was Operation Midnight Hammer,” said Leavitt, referring to America’s June 2025 attacks on three Iranian nuclear facilities. “You will hear him talk about the threats that remain abroad, but what the United States is doing to ensure that not only America is the safest country in the world, but remains the strongest country in the world.”
