President Donald Trump ripped comedian and late-night host Bill Maher on Saturday, saying Maher was a “jerk” who had “zero confidence” during their White House dinner almost a year ago.
Trump took to Truth Social to express his outrage at the comedian in a nearly 500-word post, following Maher’s referencing the dinner in a recent interview that aired on CNN International.
“Sometimes in life you waste time,” Trump said. “He was extremely nervous, had ZERO confidence in himself and, to soothe his nerves, immediately, within seconds, asked for a ‘Vodka Tonic.’”

The dinner was set up between Trump and Maher through a mutual friend when Maher inquired about meeting with the president, according to Trump. The president added that during the meeting, Maher admitted that he was “scared.”
Trump said they had a “great dinner,” and that Maher was very “respectful” about the president following their meeting until the comedian devolved into the “same old story.”
“Very boring [show], ANTI TRUMP, no mention of the PERFECT Border, Lowest Crime in 125 years, the Mass Removal of Stone Cold Criminals,” Trump said, as he went on to list various achievements from his administration. “In any event, it was a total waste of time for me to have this jerk at the White House.”
Trump also labeled Maher as a “highly overrated LIGHTWEIGHT.”
SALENA ZITO: MISSING THE STORY BETWEEN THE LINES
“Fortunately, his Television Ratings are so low that nobody will learn about his various Fake News statements about me,” Trump said. “He is no different than Kimmel, Fallon, or Colbert but, I must admit, slightly more talented!”
“Republicans should stop using him to show how the Left is coming over our way — Our Base, the Greatest of All Time, laughs at your weakness when you do it,” he added.
Following their April dinner, Maher said on his show, Real Time with Bill Maher, that Trump was “gracious.”
“The guy I met is not the guy who the night before the dinner shit-Tweeted a bunch of nasty crap about how this dinner was a bad idea and what a deranged asshole I was,” Maher said. “Just for starters: He laughs. I’ve never seen him laugh in public. But he does, including at himself. He’s not fake.”
During his interview with CNN International, Maher said the people who stopped watching his show after his dinner with Trump were “idiots.”
COMEDIANS WHO TOOK ON THE US CULTURE IN 2025
“They’re always asking the wrong question, which is: How dare you have dinner with Donald Trump,” Maher told CNN. “The question should always have been what did I say after I had dinner with Donald Trump.”
The Washington Examiner reached out to the White House and Warner Bros. Discovery for comment.
