Washington Examiner magazine executive editor Jim Antle said he’s “not sure” what President Donald Trump will find to change the public’s perspective on the 2020 election results following an FBI raid in Georgia.
The FBI executed a court-authorized search warrant at a Fulton County, Georgia, election facility on Wednesday as the president continues to contest the election results in a state former President Joe Biden won in 2020. Antle said Trump still wants to see these election results contested even though the president made a “pretty significant political comeback” by winning the 2024 election.
“I’m not sure why being so backward-looking would be to your benefit politically, particularly given that we’re now in another election year, and I think most voters have moved on from this,” Antle said on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal. “But it’s clearly something that’s very important to the president. It’s very important to some of the president’s strongest supporters.”

“I’m not sure that there’s anything that anybody could find that’s going to really change anybody’s minds about any of this stuff at this point, but clearly, they’re going to try,” Antle said.
Antle added that he personally didn’t see “a very good reason for looking backwards” on the 2020 election with Trump back in office, saying, “You’re the president now.” However, he noted one factor that kept Trump “politically viable” during his time away from the Oval Office was pushing back on the 2020 election results.

While Antle said he could understand “to some extent” why Trump views contesting the 2020 election as important, he contended the “real election” that needs attention is the 2026 midterm elections.
One of the many elections this November is the Georgia Senate race, where Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) is seeking reelection. Antle said this race is “pretty important,” as it’s one of a few “pickup opportunities” for the Republican Party.
IS TRUMP’S 2024 COALITION COMING APART AHEAD OF THE MIDTERM ELECTIONS?
“Because Georgia’s such a closely contested state, there’s going to be a lot of emphasis on things that can happen at the margins: Should the voter rolls be purged? Are there people on the voter rolls who shouldn’t be voting? So there’s going to be some focus on that,” Antle said. “But I really think that what mainly needs to happen is the Republicans, they need to be focused on the election that’s about to happen and not the one that was concluded six years ago.”
