Washington Examiner senior writer Joe Concha said the Democratic Party may be “doomed to repeat” its losses in 2026 if a recent report indicates the status of the party ahead of the midterm elections.
Political pollster Nate Silver said in a recent interview with Semafor that he is somewhat surprised that some Democrats are unwilling to acknowledge “they f***ed up” in 2024, suggesting some data claim the problem with the presidential election was that Democrats did not fight hard enough for progressive ideas. However, he noted that President Donald Trump is “super unpopular,” so taking the same approach the party took in 2024 could eventually work.
Concha said Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin decided to “bury” this polling within the Democratic Party, as “it may hurt the sensitivities” of some party members. He also cited Quinnipiac polling data putting the Democratic Party at 15% approval against 77% disapproval.
“So when you’re looking ahead, and you’re seeing the Dow closed at 48,000, above 38,000, it’s up nearly 14% since Trump’s victory in 2024, S&P is way up as well,” Concha said on Fox News’s Fox & Friends First. “We heard about a recession that’s never happening, Trump tax cuts are coming, the’ big, beautiful bill’ is a result of also no tax on tips coming, we have better trade deals around the world, gas prices at a five-year low. Democrats need a plan because saying ‘Trump is bad’ and ‘we’re here to save democracy,’ like they said in 2024 and thought that would be enough, obviously, it was not enough because they control virtually nothing right now in terms of the House, Senate, White House, and Supreme Court.”
Concha also said “the energy” is on the “far-left side” of the Democratic Party, paving the way for these candidates to win the party’s primary races. He contended the party needs “more John Fettermans” instead of candidates such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani if it plans to win in swing states.
THE FIGHT FOR THE SENATE: WHERE BATTLEGROUND RACES STAND IN THE POLLS
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stumped for the Republican Party during his speech at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, where he also said the Democratic Party is being “overrun by the Marxists.” He warned that the Democrats will seek to impeach Trump again should they retake the House in 2026.
A recent survey of 2,000 respondents found both parties are tied at 38% when asked which party they believe is better at handling the economy. On inflation, Democrats hold a 1-percentage-point lead over Republicans and an 11-point lead on the cost of living.
