White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Friday that she is pregnant with her second child, becoming the first known pregnant press secretary in U.S. history.
Leavitt posted the announcement on Instagram with a photo of her holding her stomach in front of a Christmas Tree, writing it’s the “best Christmas gift” her family could ask for.
“My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can’t wait to watch our son become a big brother,” Leavitt wrote. “My heart is overflowing with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth.”
Leavitt revealed she is expecting a baby girl in May 2026. This is Leavitt’s second child with her husband, Nick Riccio. The couple welcomed their first son, Nicholas “Niko” Robert Riccio, in July 2024.
The press secretary thanked President Donald Trump for his support: “I am also extremely grateful to President Trump and our Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for their support, and for fostering a pro-family environment in the White House,” she wrote.
She told Fox News Digital that her West Wing colleagues support one another while raising families.
“Nearly all of my West Wing colleagues have babies and young children, so we all really support one another as we tackle raising our families while working for the greatest president ever,” Leavitt said.
A senior White House official told Fox News Digital that Leavitt will remain in her position as press secretary.
Leavitt has discussed balancing her job as Trump’s spokeswoman with her family in the past. In a 2024 interview with the Conservateur, she opened up about returning to work four days after giving birth to her first child because of Trump’s assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“I felt compelled to be present in this historic moment,” she said. “The president literally put his life on the line to win this election. The least I could do is get back to work quickly.”

Leavitt told the outlet that the Trump team was “welcoming” when she revealed to them she was pregnant after they offered her the position as the spokeswoman for the then-former president’s 2024 campaign.
“Knowing I was going to have a baby in the middle of a presidential campaign— which, I found out, is no easy thing to do— they couldn’t have been more accepting and welcoming of me,” she said.
