MAGA falling out of favor, even among Republicans

.

MAGA Republicans and the “Make America Great Again” movement they and President Donald Trump represent appear to be going out of favor with voters, including among the president’s GOP supporters.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared Tuesday with Washington Secrets, likely voters overwhelmingly said that they would prefer a “regular Republican” candidate than a “MAGA Republican,” 58% to 26%.

And they are split on the movement, with 49% disapproving compared to 46% that approve.

Democrats, of course, expressed little support for MAGA, the 2016 Trump campaign theme that he brought back in 2024 after four years of former President Joe Biden.

In the Rasmussen survey, 70% of Democrats said they would prefer a “regular” Republican candidate to one associated with MAGA. And 79% said that they don’t approve of the movement.

But it was the GOP numbers that provided the surprise.

In the most recent Trump popularity survey by Rasmussen, 79% of Republicans said that they approve of the president, with 58% expressing strong support.

But in the MAGA poll, just 46% of Republicans said that they prefer a MAGA candidate, while 44% said they would prefer a “regular” Republican.

While those numbers are close, Rasmussen headlined their findings: “‘MAGA’ label not a winner for Republican candidates.”

Interestingly, Republicans still support the movement, 80% to 17% who disapprove.

The party confusion over MAGA and what it represents follows months of turmoil inside the party, demonstrated most recently by the House revolt over blocking a vote on Obamacare subsidies, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) clashes with the president’s policies, and the open differences expressed at this week’s Turning Point USA convention.
