Washington Examiner contributing writer Joe Concha rebuked the “cruelty” Erika Kirk has faced in the wake of the assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk, saying the late Turning Point USA co-founder had the biggest impact of anyone this year.
Concha said on Fox News’s Fox & Friends First that he wrote an opinion piece in the Washington Examiner explaining why Charlie Kirk should have been Time magazine’s Person of the Year, even though he was not on the short list for the award.
He said the award is given to an individual who has had the most significant impact on history and represented the year the most. As such, Charlie Kirk’s death has sparked a drastic uptick in TPUSA chapter requests nationwide, with his death being the first major political assassination since the 1960s.
“Kirk was, I should say, and is the most Googled name of the year, even surpassing President Trump, who rightly won the award in 2024 for winning back the presidency,” Concha said. “Listen to this, guys: per Fox, faith leaders report a 15% rise in church attendance as young people inspired by Charlie Kirk turn to Christianity, unquote. Bible sales also skyrocketed in the month where Charlie was murdered, 36% increase there when compared to the same time a year ago.”
“So Charlie always said, ‘Get married, have children, build a legacy, pass down your values, pursue the eternal, seek true joy.’ That’s what he often preached, and even in death, so many people are taking that to heart. He is your person of the year, no question,” Concha said.
Concha noted how “toxic” social media has been toward Erika Kirk, citing how former MSNBC anchor Joy Reid laughed about Vice President JD Vance possibly leaving his wife for Erika Kirk to establish “a white supremacist kind of couple.” He suggested an indicator for the current culture was the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and how the alleged shooter, Luigi Mangione, gained a fanbase online.

Erika Kirk defended TPUSA on Wednesday against rumors that her husband was killed by someone other than the suspect in custody, Tyler Robinson. She also announced that TPUSA is building “the most beautiful memorial for my husband at Turning Point USA,” with a “museum-style” homage.
Govs. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) and Spencer Cox (R-UT) made a joint appearance to address the rising political violence on Tuesday evening. Both governors blamed social media companies for creating algorithms that have created political division.
