Podcast host and journalist Megyn Kelly slammed the Republican Party for its performance in the 2025 elections on Wednesday, saying Election Day was “a total and complete disaster” for the party.
The Democratic Party scored major wins across the nation on Tuesday night, including double-digit victories in both the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races. Kelly said the only good news Republicans can take away from this election season is “how radical the Democrats are,” saying New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani will be “the poster child for every Republican.”
“But the Republican Party needs to get its s*** together, ASAP. I’m really glad we spent the last couple of weeks, as Sean Davis of The Federalist put it, policing some young person’s group chat, what a podcast host said, and what the head of a think tank over at Heritage had to say. I’m really glad that the Republicans devoted so much time to that. That was a great move, terrific move. Way to stick together to really shine a light on what matters,” Kelly said on The Megyn Kelly Show.
“The Republicans like to lose. They enjoy losing. They enjoy when they are embattled and in a losing position, and complaining! They love it! They do it really well. Less good at winning, especially when Donald Trump is not there to get them over the line,” Kelly said.
Prior to election day, conservatives were split over podcast host Tucker Carlson’s interview with Nick Fuentes, as well as Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts’s statement on it. Conservatives were also divided over a leaked Young Republicans group chat last month.
Kelly also criticized Republican candidates for their performance on Tuesday. She said New York City mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa will no longer be seen as “a hero” for refusing to drop out. In Virginia, Kelly said Winsome Earle-Sears “spewed a bunch of bulls***” about her internal polling before losing to Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) by around 15%.
Kelly said Spanberger’s margin of victory was so big, it carried the “absolute vile” Virginia Attorney General-elect Jay Jones across the finish line. Jones caught national attention when his 2022 text messages wishing death on then-Virginia Republican House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his children leaked online.
“Republicans, get off your f***ing couches. Alright, that’s four [f-bombs] in 10 minutes, I’m sorry, but get your fat a** off of the couches and get out there! Work on candidate quality! I’m sorry, but Winsome Sears was never going to be able to do it,” Kelly said.

President Donald Trump wrote “…AND SO IT BEGINS!” in a Truth Social post late Tuesday night, possibly referring to the 2026 midterm elections. The Democratic Party is seeking to retake both the House of Representatives and the Senate in next year’s elections.
Washington Examiner’s Joe Concha said Democrats shouldn’t use the same strategy from Tuesday’s elections next year. He explained that different states consist of different voting blocks, and what works in New York City likely wouldn’t work in states like Pennsylvania or Georgia.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told the Washington Examiner the economy will have “a gangbuster year” in 2026 as the Trump administration seeks to deliver on affordability.
