Tim Scott pushes back against Nancy Mace’s airport outburst: ‘Never acceptable’

.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) criticized Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) after reports that she berated police officers at Charleston International Airport invoked his name “for reasons that are unclear.”

According to a report filed by the Charleston County Aviation Authority Police Department, “Mace became very irate after a misunderstanding involving officers assigned to escort her to her gate. The report states Mace told officers, “We would never treat Tim Scott like this.”

Scott addressed Mace’s comments on Facebook, saying he’s used the same airport before he entered Congress and “every interaction” he’s had there has been positive. He also expressed gratitude that airport police “take extra security precautions,” especially given the death threats he has received.

“Those who know me know that I do not use profanity – in public or private. It is never acceptable to berate police officers, airport staff, and TSA agents who are simply doing their jobs, nor is it becoming of a Member of Congress to use such vulgar language when dealing with constituents. Not only are these officers sworn to protect us, but we also take an oath to represent them. We work for them, not vice versa,” Scott said on Facebook.

“For those who want to invoke my name, please have the courtesy to note my actions and how I treat police officers, TSA agents, and fellow travelers with the respect they deserve,” Scott said.

Mace, a three-term congresswoman, is currently running for Governor of South Carolina. Her director of operations, Cameron Morabito, cited her entry in the gubernatorial election as the reason for the heightened security.

After the world watched Charlie Kirk’s assassination, the threats against her have only intensified,” Morabito added. “Our security procedures are based solely on legitimate safety concerns, and any attempt to politicize this reality is both dangerous and reckless.”

Mace also addressed her reported outburst, saying two outlets covering it got it “wrong” on X. She said all federally elected officials, Scott, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) use “the same Crew Member Access Point” at airports.
