Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) bucked her party yet again in defending the freedom of speech for white nationalist Nick Fuentes.
Greene appeared on ABC News’s The View on Tuesday in her first appearance on the all-women talk show. Co-host Sarah Haines asked Greene about Fuentes, as Greene previously attended Fuentes’s America First Political Action Conference in 2022. Fuentes has since gained popularity thanks to his recent appearance on the Tucker Carlson Show, which prompted backlash.
“As we speak, there seems to be a significant divide on the right over whether to give a platform to noted white supremacist Nick Fuentes,” Haines said. “You two have had a complicated relationship over the years, but at a moment when anti-Semitism is on the rise, where do you stand on this?”
“Well, first, I’m not anti-Semitic. But I am critical of the Israeli government,” Greene said.
“Number one, I don’t have to agree with his words attacking people like that. However, as a lawmaker, I think it’s incredibly important that I defend our First Amendment for every single American,” Greene added. “Of course, that does not apply to death threats or anything like that. However, I think the most important thing we can have as Americans is our free speech, and it can be speech that I either agree with or completely disagree with.”
Later, Greene congratulated the hosts of The View for their tone during Greene’s segment. Previously, many of the hosts criticized Greene on the program, with co-host Whoopie Goldberg even going as far as suggesting Greene should be behind bars.
“I want to say that I think that all of us here are doing a great job of exchanging our ideas and things that we believe in, and we’re doing it in a very professional and kind way,” Greene said, when the audience burst into applause.
“In my opinion, I think we need more of that in America. I really do,” Greene added. “A lot of people wanted me to come on this show and say nasty things and, you know, all of us to fight. They wanted all of us to fight.”
“Thank you for not doing that,” co-host Sunny Hostin said.
Greene suggested that Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) appear on The View. Her suggestion came moments after she implied he was a “weak Republican” for not accomplishing the “Republican agenda.”

During Fuentes’s interview with Carlson, Fuentes also discussed Greene. According to Fuentes, Greene “pretended like she didn’t know” Fuentes following her attendance at his conference. Fuentes also accused Greene of firing “a groyper [who] was working in her office.”
Groyper is a nickname for a segment of far-right ideologues that support Fuentes. Fuentes dismissed suspicions that Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin Tyler Robinson was among the groypers.
