The briefing will be his 22nd of the government shutdown as this period of lapse on funding becomes the second-longest shutdown in U.S. history. The House has remained in recess throughout the shutdown while the Senate is in session.
During the House recess, the GOP-held lower chamber has refused to swear in Democratic Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva of Arizona. The Grand Canyon state announced Tuesday it is suing Johnson over the swearing-in delay.
On the Senate side, upper chamber Republicans gathered in the White House rose garden for lunch with President Donald Trump. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) has been filibustering in the chamber overnight.
