Illegal immigrant shot dead after striking officer with vehicle

.

A suspect in Chicago resisted arrest and tried to drive his vehicle into immigration agents, but was shot dead during the attack, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The officer survived but endured severe injuries.

“During a vehicle stop, the suspect resisted and attempted to drive his vehicle into the arrest team, striking an officer and subsequently dragging him as he fled the scene,” a DHS statement reads. “Fearing for his life, the officer discharged his firearm and struck the subject.

“Both the officer and subject immediately received medical treatment and were transferred to a local hospital. The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital. The officer sustained severe injuries and is in stable condition.

“Viral social media videos and activists encouraging illegal aliens to resist law enforcement not only spread misinformation, but also undermine public safety, the safety of our officers and those being apprehended.”

FBI agents were processing the scene on Friday afternoon.

Top Illinois officials reacted to the incident.

“I am aware of the troubling incident that has unfolded in Franklin Park,” Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) wrote on X.

“This is a developing situation and the people of Illinois deserve a full, factual accounting of what’s happened today to ensure transparency and accountability,” he added.
