President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Trump administration officials, and members of Congress flooded social media on Wednesday, urging prayer for Charlie Kirk after the Turning Point USA founder was shot at a college event in Utah.
“We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!” Trump said on Truth Social.
“Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father,” Vance said on X.
“I am tracking the situation at Utah Valley University closely. Please join me in praying for Charlie Kirk and the students gathered there,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) said.
“Charlie Kirk has been shot! Pray for him!” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said.
“Prayers for Charlie Kirk. An incredible Christian, American, and human being. May the healing hand of Jesus Christ be upon him,” War Secretary Pete Hegseth said.
FBI Director Kash Patel said, “We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said, “Leftist violence is out of control. Jean and I are praying for Charlie, one of the great conservative leaders of our generation.”
“The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible. In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form,” Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) said.
Commentator Candace Owens said, “Everyone please stop what you are doing and pray for Charlie Kirk. Please.”
“I’m horrified by the news coming out of Utah about the attack on Charlie Kirk. Political violence has no place in our country. Not now, and not ever. Praying for him and his family,” Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin said.
Eric Trump said, “Charlie Kirk is a great friend and an amazing person! Lara, Luke, Carolina and I will be praying for him, his wife Erika and their 2 children.”
Gov. Spencer Cox (R-UT) said, “Those responsible will be held fully accountable. Violence has no place in our public life. Americans of every political persuasion must unite in condemning this act. Our prayers are with Charlie, his family, and all those affected.”
“Political violence has no place in our [country]. We must speak with moral clarity. The attack on Charlie Kirk is horrifying and this growing type of unconscionable violence cannot be allowed in our society,” Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) said.
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said, “I condemn this in the strongest terms. There is ZERO place in our great country for these horrendous acts of political violence. We must find a better way forward. May Charlie Kirk have a full and quick recovery.”
Former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ), a survivor of gun violence, said, “I’m horrified to hear that Charlie Kirk was shot at an event in Utah. Democratic societies will always have political disagreements, but we must never allow America to become a country that confronts those disagreements with violence. X owner and billionaire Elon Musk said, “The shot looked real bad, but I sure hope Charlie makes it somehow.”
Former Vice President Kamala Harris said, “I am deeply disturbed by the shooting in Utah. Doug and I send our prayers to Charlie Kirk and his family. Let me be clear: Political violence has no place in America. I condemn this act, and we all must work together to ensure this does not lead to more violence.”
CHARLIE KIRK SHOT AT UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY EVENT
Utah Valley University Police told the Washington Examiner that shots were fired but wouldn’t provide any further information. Bystanders told Deseret News that Kirk was hit during a Q&A with students.
Footage shared online showed Kirk speaking before the sound of a gunshot was heard, followed quickly by Kirk jerking his body backward.
