Charlie Kirk shot at Utah Valley University event

Charlie Kirk was shot during an event at Utah Valley University, with reports claiming the Turning Point USA leader’s neck was hit.

“A single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker. Police are investigating now, suspect in custody,” an alert from UVU said.

A source familiar with the matter said it appeared Kirk had been shot somewhere near his neck, but did not provide any other details.

UVU Police told the Washington Examiner that shots were fired, but wouldn’t provide any further information.

Bystanders told Deseret News that Kirk was hit during a Q&A with students.

“I am tracking the situation at Utah Valley University closely. Please join me in praying for Charlie Kirk and the students gathered there,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) said.

Top U.S. officials including Vice President JD Vance, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), and FBI Director Kash Patel reacted to the shooting in posts on X.

Patel confirmed the FBI is “closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”

Newsom said, “The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible. In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form.”

Vance told his followers to “Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father.”
