Republican Study Committee members extended their thanks to multiple National Guard members, buying them breakfast and speaking with them outside the Washington Monument.
The committee held the event early Wednesday morning to discuss the results of President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of the District of Columbia, where almost 2,200 arrests have been made since last month. Reps. Mike Collins (R-GA), Mary Miller (R-IL), Randy Fine (R-FL), and Claudia Tenney (R-NY) were among the members attending the event.
The committee members walked with National Guard members around the Washington Monument and gave them Chick-fil-A sandwiches for breakfast. Coffee was also available.
Trump’s federal takeover of Washington, D.C., is set to end Wednesday, the expiration date of his emergency order. Collins told the Washington Examiner that he and other Republicans have looked for “direction” from the administration on what’s next for the Capitol.

“If they want us to codify something, or if they want us to help them to continue on with the program, we’re willing to do that. I know I am,” Collins said.
Fine said Trump’s action to clean up crime in D.C. is “a case study” of solving crime. He also said other cities, such as Chicago and Charlotte, North Carolina, must be addressed since “Americans are simply unwilling to live like this anymore.”
DC GRAND JURY DECLINES TO INDICT MAN ACCUSED OF THREATENING NATIONAL GUARD
Charlotte is receiving national attention over a violent stabbing last month, which took place on public transportation. Trump called DeCarlos Brown Jr., the suspect in this attack, an “animal” for killing a Ukrainian refugee, and “there can be no other option” but for Brown to receive the death penalty.
The Trump administration has hinted it is setting its sights on a federal takeover of Chicago, much to the ire of Mayor Brandon Johnson and Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL). Attorney General Pam Bondi said Tuesday that Chicago is “a progressive city” resisting Trump’s help, and the administration is “going to a city who wants us there.”
