Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha blasted Democratic New York mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani for having “no idea how basic taxes and businesses work.”
“This is a 33-year-old that has never held an actual job in his life,” Concha said Monday on Fox Business’s Varney and Co. “He has zero understanding, clearly, how the economy works.
“And the horrific irony is he’s about to become, unless something changes, as in two people drop out of this race, the mayor of New York. That is the financial capital of the world, and a communist is about to run it, who clearly has no idea how basic taxes and businesses work.”
Concha said that a communist at the head of the largest city in the United States would only encourage its wealthy citizens to “get the hell out of a place like New York City,” as many Republican politicians have cheered for this to happen.
Among Mamdani’s campaign promises are to freeze rent for stabilized tenants, create a network of city-owned grocery stores, and provide free child care. Mamdani’s campaign won him the Democratic primary against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier this year.

As of Tuesday, incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, Cuomo, and Republican nominee Curtis Silwa remain in the race. Adams and Cuomo opted to continue their campaigns as independents to oppose Mamdani.
Mamdani has a 22-point lead over Cuomo in the race, according to a September poll conducted by the New York Times and Siena University.
