Talk show host Stephen A. Smith will release a new SiriusXM show featuring a political angle.
Straight Shooter with Stephen A. Smith will air its first episode on SiriusXM’s POTUS channel on Sept. 17. The show borrows its title from Smith’s memoir Straight Shooter: A Memoir of Second Chances and First Takes.
“Airing live at 6 pm ET every Wednesday, ‘Straight Shooter’ will welcome notable figures from the worlds of politics, entertainment, business, and beyond, while offering Smith’s trademark no-nonsense commentary on the day’s most pressing headlines,” SiriusXM said in a statement.
“The show will also give listeners the chance to join the conversation, with Smith taking live calls from across the country,” the statement continued.
Smith’s established sports broadcast, The Stephen A. Smith Show, began airing daily on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio on Monday.
“I’ve spent my career speaking my mind, asking tough questions, and zeroing in on the issues that matter most,” Smith said. “Whether it’s my new sports show on Mad Dog Sports Radio or talking politics on P.O.T.U.S., I’m here to challenge, entertain, and engage SiriusXM listeners.”
Smith’s new show will include Republican and Democratic guests. In an interview with the Washington Post, Smith revealed he has invited top figures, including President Donald Trump, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“President Trump has already done a town hall with Mr. Smith and others on NewsNation,” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung told the Washington Examiner when asked about the invitation.
Newsom’s office did not confirm or deny an invitation.
THE ‘BLASPHEMY’ OF STEPHEN A. SMITH AS A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE
SiriusXM’s POTUS channel, which stands for “politics of the United States,” began in 2012. Among the cast of hosts, including Smith, are Michael Smerconish, Dan Abrams, Julie Mason, Steve Scully, and others.
The Washington Examiner reached out to the State Department and the vice president’s office for comment.
