President Donald Trump on Sunday said he wouldnāt accept an invitation from Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) to join a āpublic safety walkā in Baltimore next month as long as the cityās crime problem persists.
āGovernor Wes Moore of Maryland has asked, in a rather nasty and provocative tone, that I āwalk the streets of Marylandā with him,ā Trump wrote on Truth Social, referencing an invitation letter that Moore sent him on Thursday. āI assume he is talking about out of control, crime ridden, Baltimore? As President, I would much prefer that he clean up this Crime disaster before I go there for a āwalk.’ā
Trump also threatened to deploy the National Guard to Baltimore, as he did in Washington, D.C., this month and in Los Angeles in June.
āIf Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I will send in the ātroops,ā which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime. After only one week, there is NO CRIME AND NO MURDER IN DC!ā he said, alluding to reporting on the matter. āWhen it is like that in Baltimore, I will proudly āwalk the streetsā with the failing, because of Crime, Governor of Maryland.ā
Baltimore was ranked the fourth most dangerous city in the nation, according to a recent poll published by U.S. News and World Report. Trump previously singled out Baltimore as one of the crime-ridden blue cities to eventually see a federal crackdown on crime. Chicago is expected to see National Guard troops on its streets next, followed by New York City.
In his letter to Trump, Moore shared statistics showing homicides in Maryland have been down 20% statewide since he assumed office in 2023. He also said the Baltimore Police Department recorded a 22% decrease in homicides and a 19% decrease in non-fatal shootings in the first half of 2025, compared to last year.
Meanwhile, Trump criticized Moore as having a āvery badā record on combating crime and even alleged the Democratic governor is manipulating Maryland and Baltimoreās crime figures.
The Department of Justice is investigating whether Washington, D.C.ās Metropolitan Police Department has altered its crime numbers following allegations made by Trump and the chairman of the capitalās police union.

The president also threatened to pull the congressionally appropriated funding set aside for the rebuilding of Baltimoreās Francis Scott Key Bridge following its collapse last year.
āI gave Wes Moore a lot of money to fix his demolished bridge. I will now have to rethink that decision???ā he asked.

In a separate post, Trump questioned whether Moore lied āabout getting a Bronze Star.ā
The statement refers to the controversy in which Moore claimed he received the accolade on a 2006 White House fellowship application despite no Army records proving he received one. Moore was apparently told nearly two decades ago he would receive a Bronze Star, but that never happened until late last year after the controversy erupted. The medal was awarded to correct the mix-up, which Moore chalked up to an āhonest mistakeā on his part.
