Judge denies bond for illegal immigrant who caused deadly Florida crash

.

A Florida judge on Saturday denied bond to Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant accused of causing a fatal accident on Florida’s Turnpike.

Singh, a truck driver, is in Florida custody on state vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations after being accused of making an illegal U-turn that ended in the deaths of three people in an Aug. 12 collision.

In a ruling on the case over the weekend, St. Lucie County Judge Lauren Sweet ruled there is a substantial flight risk associated with Singh.

“There are no conditions of release that will ensure your appearance at trial,” Sweet said in a court order that also found probable cause for all six charges against Singh and classified them as forcible felonies under Florida law. “Therefore, sir, I’m setting your bond on each charge at no bond.”

The incident is under federal investigation, with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy saying the deadly crash “was a preventable tragedy directly caused by reckless decisions and compounded by despicable failures.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced following the incident plans to pause worker visas for commercial truck drivers “effective immediately.”

“The increasing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor-trailer trucks on U.S. roads is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers,” he said.

Following the Florida crash, Immigration and Customs Enforcement also arrested Singh’s brother, who was a passenger in Harjinder’s truck at the time of the collision. Harneet Singh was also in the U.S. illegally and was detained by ICE on Monday, according to Fox News.
