Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill is suing the popular online gaming platform Roblox, accusing it of being “overrun with harmful content and child predators.”
Murrill filed a lawsuit claiming Roblox did not inform parents about the platform’s risk, failed to protect children, and facilitated the distribution of child sexual abuse material.
“Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana,” Murrill said in a news release. “Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety.”
Roblox is known for its versatility as a video game. The gaming platform describes itself as an “ultimate virtual universe that lets you create, share experiences with friends, and be anything you can imagine.”
The platform has more than 111 million monthly users.
Roblox has drawn criticism for its failure to censor user content on its platform. Murrill showed examples of content within the game, including a “public bathroom simulator,” along with multiple references to controversial music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
These are just a few examples of the obscene garbage Roblox is peddling to our children in Louisiana and across the country. I will not stand by and watch this company grow exponentially from exploiting children and facilitating child sexual abuse for profit… pic.twitter.com/uPDwXSQoDP

Murrill, who was elected as attorney general in 2023, believes Roblox should be shut down.
“These are just a few examples of the obscene garbage Roblox is peddling to our children in Louisiana and across the country. I will not stand by and watch this company grow exponentially from exploiting children and facilitating child sexual abuse for profit,” she said, describing content seen on the platform.
Roblox says it is testing new age verification features. One that recently launched requires teenagers ages 13 to 17 to send a video selfie to verify their ages if they want to chat with people they know, called “trusted connections.”
The platform also told the Associated Press last week that it is rolling out an artificial intelligence system to help find signs of child endangerment.

Roblox was released to the public in 2006 and hosts a player base with over half of users under age 16.
Roblox’s stock valuation dropped nearly 8% at the close of trading on Friday.
